Rev Jill Cheverton was ordained by the Bishop of Ripon in 1993. She served as a curate at St John’s Bilton, Harrogate, and then as Vicar of St Agnes, Burmantofts (an Anglican-Baptist Local Ecumenical Project) in inner city Leeds. She really appreciates the Lord’s preparation for ordained ministry through four years in the Royal Air Force, social work placements, helping Ugandan refugees, garage reception, dental practice administration, Community and then Hospital based Paediatric Liaison Health Visitor work.
Jill has strong Baptist roots in her early Christian life and teaching, and calls herself a zipped up Baptist Anglican and a conforming non-conformist. An early passion for realistic ecumenism, all sorts of lay experience and then five years as organist and worship leader have been a great foundation. She shows great respect for both Anglican and Baptist traditions while she is prepared to challenge anything that does not help people find the love of God.
In her spare time, Jill grows fruit and vegetables and produces delicious green tomato chutney. She loves fresh air, walking, reading and DIY and keeps fit with swimming and not too energetic cycling. She is a person of enthusiasm, energy and hope with an inquisitive and enquiring approach to life and says ‘I have no doubt that Binley Woods is the right place for me to share whatever the Lord has given me, and I continue to learn and be transformed through his compassion and grace’.
