This song addresses a situation where conventional success is not overwhelmingly evident, though God has clearly been working over 15 years, and, at this watershed time, we believe there is more to come...  I hope that it might encourage others on a similar situation.

... Having written this song about a local situation, I led an all-age service on Pentecost Sunday, and it seemed to me that this song could also be used as a meditation on the condition of the disciples before they received the Holy Spirit, wondering whether their earlier hope could be fulfilled.

... And then leading a service which considered the deliverance of the Hebrews from Egypt, it seemed to me that this song could also be used as a meditation on their condition, struggling through the desert.

When we set out

When we set out, the way ahead looked clear
And everyone said it was great.
On our way we were singing our praise to God, praises to God.

Yes, we set out, and there are still some here
Who were there and still watch and still wait
For God to show his great works
As we try to keep praying.

God, we worship, Mighty One,
Lord, show us all you’ve done.
God, our maker, make us new;
You complete what you've begun.

Now we are here, we’re setting out anew,
O Lord, will you make our faith grow?
On our way, keep us singing our praise to you, praises to you.

Now we are here, yes, here are others too,
Who join in the mission to show
Your love, O Lord, show your love,
As we try to keep praying.

God, we worship …
